Prevalence of nutritional stunting in children under 5 years of age

Data on stunting were derived from the most recent DHS and WHO surveys [1-3]. To find countries, use the alphabetical categories above.

Height-for-age is a measure of nutritional stunting and is the best known indicator of the adverse outcomes associated with zinc deficiency in populations.

As a preliminary step in estimating the global prevalence of zinc deficiency, the risk of zinc deficiency can be estimated for each country based on existing values for the national prevalence of stunting in pre-school children.
A prevalence of stunting > 20% of the population is considered elevated and a public health concern.
